DUAL TRANSFER ISN'T JUST FOR HIGH SCHOOL

Central Arizona College (CAC) has an innovative program that offers GED prep students college credit towards a national construction credential while they work on earning their High School Equivalency. Students enrolled in the Integrated Education and Training (IET) program are earning the same college credits as “traditional” Career and Technical Education students enrolled in the college’s Welding, Heavy Equipment Operating, or Industrial Carpentry programs. Furthermore, CAC has eliminated the tuition barrier with a 12-credit school specific scholarship, creating an additional pathway that encourages a growing non-traditional student population to enroll into the community college while addressing local workforce needs.

AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS’ PROJECT EXPERIENCES IN AN INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING CLASS IN A RURAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Engineering projects that community college students engage with can potentially impact their performance and even improve the likelihood of transfer to a 4-year university. Performing projects allow students to connect their experiences with concepts they learn and gain technical knowledge, develop technical capital and professional identities. In addition, experiences in such projects can enhance their resumes and give students an advantage when competing with others for internships. But are all projects equal or are some projects more equal than others?

About AZTransfer

FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, academic leaders from each of Arizona’s public postsecondary institutions have collaborated to support transfer student success. Known as the AZTransfer Steering Committee, this coordinating body ensures Arizona’s students have access to efficient, seamless, and simple ways to transfer from a community college to a university in Arizona. Born out of legislation passed in 1996, the AZTransfer Steering Committee works to fulfill a promise to provide high-quality educational pathways that lead to baccalaureate degree completion for all Arizonans.
