Demonstrating Language Proficiency

Criteria and Verification

(established by the Arizona Languages Articulation Task Force [LATF])

  1. Completion of an appropriate language course for 4th semester proficiency (either a 4th semester language course or one which requires 4th semester proficiency as a prerequisite) with a C or better. Verified by transcript.
  2. Completion of a secondary or college education in a foreign country where a language other than English is the official or native language. Verified by transcript.
  3. Completion of placement or proficiency test (at the appropriate level) identified by the Arizona Languages Articulation Task Force with a C or better. Verified by CLEP* scores (see chart).
  4. Completion of a standard language examination in accordance with the LATF Outcomes Statements (at the appropriate level) recognized by the institution, with a grade of C or better. Verified by the “Verification of Language Proficiency” formLess common languages for which there is no test, see contact information below.

*For Spanish, French or German, achievement of the minimum required score on the CLEP exam will be accepted through fall 2002.
