Suzan Simmons, Coconino Community College
Jim Hutchison welcomed everyone to CAC. Marcia Wojsko, the ATAC chair, started the meeting with introductions. Gretchen Schmidt was introduced as the new Articulation Facilitator. Rebecca Moore was re-introduced as the CAS Technical Analyst. Both were warmly welcomed.
V. b. ACETS Development
The first agenda item was the Arizona Course Equivalency Tracking System (ACETS). Rebecca Moore provided an overview of progress in this development. Currently, Phase I is underway. An outcome of Phase I of ACETS development is to automate the paper CEG form. A web form was presented and reviewed by the ATAC group. A subcommittee was formed to pilot the form. The subcommittee includes Jodie Buehler, Yavapai; Lynn Duncan, Cochise; Zoila Gamero de Tovar, ASU Main; Linda Heiland of CAC; Molly Baird, Maricopa; and a NAU representative.
ATAC stated that an outline needs to be cut and pasted into the comment box or attached at the bottom of the form. It was agreed that deletions of courses would be done via memo and not using this form. The deletion memo should identify the course prefix, the course title, and effective date of the deletion.
II. Approval of the Agenda
The agenda was approved.
The minutes were reviewed on-line. The minutes were approved and are to be posted on-line. Thanks were given to Mike Hensley.
IV. b. Instruction Sheet for ATAC Members at ATFs
Roger Johnson volunteered to review and improve the current instructions and post them on the web for further review at the next meeting.
The need for subcommittee was no longer present so the subcommittee was disbanded.
IV. d. ATASS Status Report
Amy Fountain led a discussion of the improvements to ATASS. One such improvement is the distribution of ATF materials via the listserves. She stated that having ATF listserves is not enough. She produced an error report with a list of bad emails. Additionally, some ATF members do not have email accounts or are not reporting them.
The currency of the CEG pages sent to the ATF membership is a second issue. For next fall, it was agreed that:
· ATF meeting materials will be sent via the listserves.
· a separate sign-off sheet for making improvements to the CEG would be sent.
· instructions into how to access the on-line CEG and Appendix G would be provided so that the faculty members could print-off the most current CEG pages prior to the meeting.
· the ATF Handbook would reflect this new procedure.
· ATF training would reflect this new procedure.
A third issue is the CEG tables contain missing data or bad data. Some of the missing data is due to the coursebank problems: either the coursebank provided by the colleges is not up-to-date or has missing information. The following was agreed upon.
IV. e. ATF Calendar
Improvements were made to the ATF calendar including:
· Patti Wylie of the UA is not the chair of the Family and Consumer Studies ATF. The AWC lead member is the chair.
· Dave Padgett will be the ATAC facilitator for the Philosophy ATF on February 9, 2001.
· The Dance ATF is not scheduled to meet and may be a topic of discussion at the next APASC meeting.
IV. f. TGXR and AAGR Language Requirements Subcommittee Report
Julie Ramsden clarified that the language requirement is being handled by the Language ATF and other groups and is no longer a part of this subcommittee's charge. The TGXR charge is to confirm the TGXR pathways and that this task is in progress. The university ATAC members are reviewing the TGXR programs. NAU had reported that there would be some movement for TGXRs to SR pathways and that some TGXRs may be able to utilize an AGEC. The UA reported 36 TGXRs and that only one is being shifted to another pathway. ASU's results are forthcoming. A summary TGXR report will be provided at the next meeting.
The two famous TGXRs, Education and Engineering, are getting considerable attention at APASC, TATF, JCC, and other political venues. Resolutions to these two TGXR pathways are being sought in the near future.
V. a. Retroactive Effective Dates for CEG Rules
An attachment on this topic was in the ATAC packet. Zoila Gamero de Tovar stated that ASU will accept retroactive dates for:
· new courses.
· editorial changes.
· course re-evaluations, which do not result in an equivalency change.
Course re-evaluations resulting in an equivalency change or with an general education/liberal studies/general studies change and deletions could not be accepted retroactively.
The UA agreed with this proposal. It was assumed that NAU would not object. This proposal was accepted by ATAC. Ron Keith complimented Zoila on this proposal and resolution. Zoila credited her staff.
V. c. Additional New Business--ATF Listserves
Julie Ramsden asked if the ATFs had to use the listserve stating that the Geology ATF already had their own. The Geology ATF's version had all geology faculty from across the state. The ATASS version has only the lead members. Amy Fountain reviewed the purpose of the listserve is to 1) provide ATF meeting materials and 2) increase interaction amongst the ATF membership, Phase II of ACETs, and 3) consolidate ATF membership into one source. It was agreed that the ATASS ATF listserve should be limited to only ATF members. The ATASS ATF listserve is not intended to replace the discipline-specific listserves. Amy and Gretchen agreed to send messages to all ATFs to define the purposes of the ATASS ATF listserves and to suggest that link be established to the discipline-specific listserve from the ATASS ATF listserve.
A second issue involving ATF listserves is that some ATAC members are discovering that they need to be on the ATF listserves. It was a mistake to have deleted themselves from the listserves. Amy stated that ATAC members could be added to the listserves by sending her an email requesting such.
V. d. Additional New Business--Reverse CEG
Under the CAS planning address is a draft of the Reverse CEG which allows for a view of the CEG from a university course to all of the community colleges equivalencies. For example, clicking down through the menus to ASU's SOC 100 will show the community college equivalencies at all colleges for ASU's SOC 100.
The ATAC group questioned the title of this CEG view. Some suggestions were made but no one title was approved. It was questioned if this view would have to be proofed. The answer was that this data was pulled from the same table as the Administrative CEG. Thus, it has all the constraints of the Administrative CEG including footnotes not being fully represented and that this view only represents the current semester. There was much positive about this view including cross-walking equivalencies, when needed. For example, a university faculty could see the effects of a change in a university course more readily. The effort was applauded.
VI. a. APASC Report
Marcia stated that there was no report since APASC had not met since the last ATAC meeting.
VI. b.-d. AZCAS, CAS Transfer Analyst, and Quality Team Reports
These reports were included in the ATAC packet and are consent agendas. No questions came forth.
The ATF and CEG Handbooks are being merged. The Handbooks are being posted with links to pertinent sites.
Julie Ramsden informed ATAC that the Arizona Board of Regents had approved ASU West to offer lower-division courses for Fall 2001. The courses will be mostly general education courses. It is anticipated that 200 freshmen will enter ASU West during the Fall 2001 semester.
All were confirmed. The next meeting is to be held at Arizona Western College on November 16, 2000. Mike Hensley provided information about Yuma to the members present.
Future agenda items should be listed on via the listserve.
Jim Hutchison and Linda Heiland were thanked for their hospitality. The meeting was adjourned.
