Re: Changes in CLEP Scores for French, German and Spanish

At the Fall 2000 meeting, the members of the Academic Program Articulation Steering Committee accepted the following proposal from the Languages Articulation Task Force.

The universities agree to standardize CLEP scores for French, German and Spanish in accordance with the current scores listed by Northern Arizona University for up to 16 credits with the recommendation that an oral exam at the 202 level be additionally administered. This agreement will stand from Fall 2001 to the end of Fall 2003 semester, at which time the Languages ATF will reconsider the motion.

The members of APASC request your assistance with the implementation of this policy. The universities are asked to apply the new CLEP scores beginning Fall semester, 2001. All institutions are asked to make the new scores available to the students on their campuses.

Northern Arizona University’s CLEP scores for Languages are as follows:

Spanish: 101 – 40-49 (4 hrs.) French: 101 – 39-48 (4 hrs.)

102 – 50-54 (8 hrs.) 102 – 49-53 (8 hrs.)

201 – 55-61 (12 hrs.) 201 – 54-62 (12 hrs.)

202 – 62-80 (16 hrs.) 202 – 63-80 (16 hrs.)

German: 101 – 39-45 (4 hrs.)

102 – 46-50 (8 hrs.)

201 – 51-59 (12 hrs.)

202 – 60-80 (16 hrs.)

According to the Languages ATF, by Fall 2002, testing centers will collect data on the impact/validity of the new CLEP exam scores and credits on Arizona’s postsecondary education population and report to the Languages ATF. The Languages ATF will then revisit the scores and credits prior to the end of the Fall 2003 window.
